Tenji’s strengths lie in our extensive knowledge of the design and operation of public aquarium exhibitions. From individual themed displays, to multimillion-dollar new exhibit wings, we see projects from initial planning stages, through fabrication to installation and operation.

Silvertown Aquarium
London, United Kingdom
The Silvertown Aquarium—a flagship development for the regeneration of the Royal Docks—will immerse visitors in an exciting and inspirational journey through the world’s rivers, lakes and seas. Tenji worked with Silvertown staff from the earliest planning stages to create a strategy for developing a cohesive and relevant themed visitor experience.

Tongass Coast Aquarium
Ketchikan, Alaska
Tenji helped rally both community and Board support for the aquarium through radio and print ads and community involvement. After our preliminary review of the project, which covered financial, staffing and thematic interpretation and site location feedback, the project gained momentum and a renowned architectural firm has been hired. Tenji’s role will continue through concept development, design, documentation, installation and the burn-in processes.

Tennessee Aquarium, opened 2005
Chattanooga, Tennessee
The Tennessee Aquarium has begun construction of a 60,000-square-foot, $30-million expansion. Scheduled to open in 2005, the expansion, will take visitors beneath the waves and out to the open ocean. The Aquarium has chosen Tenji to develop and refine life-support and lighting systems and develop husbandry techniques for jellies, cephalopods and other creatures.

Bay Area Discovery Museum
Sausalito, California
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is undergoing a major expansion aimed at interpreting the biology and oceanography of the San Francisco Bay. Tenji’s role is to provide life-support and exhibit-tank design for the new children’s exhibits being added to the Discovery Museum’s historical buildings.

Cupertino Library
Cupertino, California
Included in the plans for Cupertino’s new $24-million library and civic center is a children’s area featuring a large aquarium filled with colorful tropical animals. To ensure they’d receive a high quality, easily maintained exhibit, the city chose Tenji to facilitate the design.

Gulf of Maine Research Institute
GMRI Portland, Maine
Tenji worked with the GMRI staff to design a state-of-the-art life support system and schooling fish exhibit for their Cohen Education Center.  Everything from control/monitoring/alarming system to animal procurement to development of husbandry protocols and training were provided for this turn-key project.

Marine Environmental Research Institute
MERI Blue Hill, Maine
MERI wanted to redesign their Ocean’s Room to include more live exhibits and a larger life support system.  Tenji worked to facilitate meetings to help brainstorm their new exhibit and designed the new life support systems.

Waterbar Restaurant 
San Francisco, California
Tenji is currently working with designers and architects to create an incredible aquarium display in the newest Kuleto designed restaurant in San Francisco.  Two 11 foot tall cylinders will be a focal point in this establishment. 

Steinhart Aquarium
San Francisco, California
Tenji is currently working with architects, designers, developers and husbandry staff to develop and refine all of the small to medium displays that will be part of the new Steinhart Aquarium.

Bow Habitat Station
Alberta, Canada
Tenji worked with a Canadian exhibit design company to provide direction and support in the design of three large freshwater displays that are to highlight native fishes of Alberta’s extensive river system.  Bow Habitat Station, a native fish rearing facility, has a significant aquarium gallery that Tenji also provided direction in retrofitting existing aquaria to create a more natural, aesthetically pleasing experience.
